Jessika Grewe Glover lives in a secret lair above Los Angeles, California with her British husband. She is the mum of two exceptional humans and one rescue bulldog; and has a slight obsession with history, style, art, vampires, and making chocolate dragons. When not writing, she can be found traveling, eating, looking for alternate realms, and often bantering in song lyrics. She is the author of the Another Beast’s Skin series. Stars Like Gasoline is her first contemporary novel.

Questions:
- Tell our readers a little about yourself and your writing (including publications).
Hello! I am Jessika Grewe Glover, a multi-genre author. Currently, my romantic suspense novel, Stars Like Gasoline is available. I have an adult contemporary fantasy series I am re-releasing after getting my rights back from my former publisher. I am hoping two of the books, Another Beast’s Skin and A Braiding of Darkness, will release this month with all new covers! My short story, “Moths At Bay” is featured in a couple of anthologies and my flash fiction, “The Florist” and “Remembering Antibes” is published in online magazines. I am a mum of two (15 and 19, and a 10 year old rescue bulldog), a traveler, and personal trainer and nutrition expert, to name a few things. - What writing projects are you currently working on?
Apart from waiting for copy edits on the third book in my fantasy series, I’ve been querying a sort of literary thriller I liken to The Secret History Meets Frankenstein, and slowly writing a vampire romance for fun. - Are you a daytime writer, a mid-day writer, a nighttime writer, or just someone who writes when the mood hits you?
When I began writing Another Beast’s Skin, both kids were in full time school and I had early morning clients. Writing was pretty much exclusively at 4 and 5 AM, and sometimes in the early evening. My schedule has changed so much since then, so I tend to write more in the mid-afternoon as that’s when I have more of a lull during the day. Ultimately, my goal is to soon be able to write full time during the day, starting just after my morning workout. I don’t write well at night. I am definitely an early to bed person. By nine, my head is on my husband’s chest, and we are reading or watching something! - Do you have a writing “Bucket List” (goals you want to accomplish as a writer)?
In the next few years, I intend to be making a livable income with my books, allowing my family to move and my husband to retire. As far as a non-financial goal, to be someone’s favorite author and have them carry around my book, dogeared and well-loved, is my dream. - Who is your favorite author and why?
My favorite author is Deborah Harkness, author of the All Souls Trilogy. She is brilliant and whimsical, and I come back to those books time and again. I have a few perennial favorite books and seasonal ones as well for different reasons (narration, prose, overall feels, etc). - How many books do you read in a month? What are your favorite genres?
This answer runs the gamut! Some months I can read five or six books, some it’s just one. My reading is dependent on my schedule and my chronic migraine situation. Literary fiction, gothic horror, historical fiction, fantasy, paranormal, dark fiction…I read many genres but those are my go-tos. - When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I have been a writer my entire life. My mom worked for Pan Am when I was little, and I often traveled with her for work. Short stories and poetry got scribbled on Pan Am cocktail napkins. I wrote my first novel at twelve years old. Though I have a degree in Creative Writing (also studied International Studies: Intelligence and Foreign Policy, plus a minor in German), I stepped away from attempting to write professionally for a number of years while my children were little. - Do you have any “rules” when you write? (EX for me: the dog never dies!)
THE DOG NEVER DIES! Hard and fast rule. - Speaking of animals, do you have any pets?
My bulldog, Coco Monster, is 10.5. We adopted her from SoCal Bulldog Rescue when she was one. She is truly my familiar. Our birthdays are three days apart and we don’t like leaving each other’s sides. I do wish she hadn’t eaten the 63 pieces of Lego last summer though. - What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a writer?
Write. Bleed on that page. Try to take criticism with a grain of salt—this is hard as it’s such a subjective business and sometimes people can be downright mean. Remember that when it comes down to it, write for you. Let writing be your escape and catharsis.
