JUNE 2023
As a new month approaches, so does a new stack of books to read! And now that it’s nice out, I’ll probably spend time outdoors reading with Thor. This month’s list will include the following:

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐘𝐕𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐑- 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧
Surprisingly enough, I have never read this classic, even though I have seen many of the movies (some of my favorites are the truly awful later entries 🤣). This copy (pictured above) is actually a first draft of the novel that a friend found for me last year.
𝟓𝟔 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 – 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝
I have never read any of the author’s work, but this one has been sitting on my shelf for a while, and I’m glad to finally get to it. The reviews are strong, and the plot sounds absolutely chilling! Here’s hoping I have yet another new author to add to my favorites list!
𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐁𝐘 𝐌𝐔𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒 – 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐉𝐚𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐫
My indie read this month is a highly rated horror piece by a fellow HorrorScope author! It is the first in what will be a series of novels surrounding the character of Emily Ellis, a painter who has a bizarre connection to a number of girls who are being murdered.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐊𝐄𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 – 𝐑𝐡𝐲𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐧
This book is part of my “12 Books By 12 Friends” challenge. I’ve yet to read this author, so this will be interesting. With more than 57,000 ratings on Amazon and a 4.5 composite, I’m guessing this one should be a decent read.
MAY 2023
So far in 2023, I have been able to meet my reading goals each month by consuming three or four books each month. That’s actually pretty good for a slow reader who gets distracted as much as his dog. I have four new titles (new to me – these have all been out for a while now), and at the end of the month, I will give short reviews to each one.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires – Grady Hendrix
Yes, I am on a Grady Hendrix kick. After reading The Final Girl Support Group last fall, I have been taking in one of his books seemingly every other month. This title has been one of the most anticipated titles I’ve had on my TBR, and I’m finally going to read it this month.
Paranoid – Lisa Jackson
At the end of December, I decided to do the “12 Books Recommended by 12 Friends” challenge. I have never read a book by Lisa Jackson, but this one does look promising. How can you go wrong with the tagline “If you think someone is out to get you … and someone really is … then you are NOT paranoid …”
Cursed Legacy – H. Everend
Here we have the first of two indie author reads for the month. H. Everend is the publisher of the HorrorScope anthology series (volume 2 coming soon!) and also co-wrote The Summoning which I read earlier this year. This has been one of the more anticipated titles I have been waiting to read in 2023!
Haunted Souls – Samuel Hallum
I had the honor of sharing book space with Mr. Hallum as part of HorrorScope: A Zodiac Anotholgy Volume 1 earlier this year, and now I am looking forward to reading his debut novel. I am always drawn to tales of evil mansions and supernatural horror!
