Mike Salt

Mike Salt is the author of the Linkville Horror Series. He spends most of his days chasing kids around the house and finding excuses to not actually write. Someday he will have time more frequently, but that required kids to grow up and that will make him sad.

Questions:

  1. Tell our readers a little about yourself and your writing (including publications).
I started writing during my military training for the USAF… It was a good way to not get depressed while i was away from my kids. I self published my first book a couple years later and have published one book a year since.
  2. What writing projects are you currently working on?
I’m currently doing my next draft in the Linkville Series and working on a different story outside the universe. The next project is going to be my most hardcore story to date.
  3. Are you a daytime writer, a mid-day writer, a nighttime writer, or just someone who writes when the mood hits you?
Nighttime… I can’t write until the kiddos are well asleep.
  4. Do you have a writing “Bucket List” (goals you want to accomplish as a writer)?
I want to have my entire Linkville series finished… which will be about 9 books altogether. I want to start traveling more and doing more signings.
  5. Who is your favorite author and why?
It’s always been Richard Matheson. He really got under my skin when I was young and have always suggested his work to new horror readers.
  6. How many books do you read in a month? What are your favorite genres?
I read mainly horror, but i will dip in and out of science fiction at times. I probably squeeze in one or two books a week if I’m lucky.
  7. When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Not until 2014… before that I was wanting to work in comic books.
  8. HORROR FANS (pick 1-3): What was the first horror movie you ever saw? What is your favorite horror movie? What is the worst horror movie you have ever seen?
I saw Night of the Living Dead when I was six years old. It is still one of my favorite horror movies, but I tend to love most horror movies for one reason or another. Very rarely do I leave a movie hating it. I can usually find something interesting or fun to take away from them.
  9. Do you have any “rules” when you write? (EX for me: the dog never dies!)
Not really… I do try and not plot or know where I’m going when I’m writing, so I generally try and make the twists even surprise myself… is that a rule? Not knowing where I’m going?
  10. Speaking of animals, do you have any pets?
Three of them. Two doggos and one kitty.
  11. What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a writer?
Hit me up on IG, I’ll chat your ear off. The most important thing to do is JUST START! You just start writing every day, even if it’s only 10 minutes… it’ll add up over time.
