Izzy Von is a self published author from Austin, Texas. She released her debut in February 2024. Since then, she has released three more stories with a fourth releasing on her birthday, April 20th.
Izzy fell in love with horror when, at eight years old, she woke up at 3 AM to Vincent Price on her TV telling her about a party at the House on Haunted Hill. When she was a teenager, Izzy watched George a Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. This opened up the world of horror as an art form, and she began to write.
Izzy wrote everything from poetry to song lyrics and from film scripts to comic books. After reading Stephen Kings On Writing, she focused on short stories. All of it horror. All of it bloody.

Questions:
- Tell our readers a little about yourself and your writing (including publications).
My name is Izzy Von. I am a Texas woman of transgender experience and I write violent books with heart. My debut was released in February 2024, titled A Dandy Among the Dead. It’s a road trip buddy comedy with zombies.
In September I released The Jetty; or, Don’t Fuck With A Transwoman From Texas With A Gun. I’ve told people this was a 200-page therapy session. It’s a little more serious than Dandy and a lot bloodier. - What writing projects are you currently working on?
I just finished the sequel to The Jetty called I Collect Vile Things; or, Don’t Fuck With A Transwoman From Texas With A Gun 2. Now, I’m getting ready to finish the ‘A Dandy World’ series with at least four back-to-back stories. - Are you a daytime writer, a mid-day writer, a nighttime writer, or just someone who writes when the mood hits you?
I feel like I do my best writing in the morning starting around 7:00 or 8:00, but I write when I can. - Who is your favorite author and why?
Growing up it was Stephen King. Then, Clive Barker. Now it’s Lucy Foley. I’m a huge fan of her writing and storytelling. Her attention to detail. Her ability to weave a story with multiple POV’s. It’s amazing. - Who/what first inspired you to write?
George Romero introduced me to art through filmmaking. I watched his movies on repeat and analyzed every aspect of them. He wrote his movies. He edited his earlier movies. He obviously directed them and was cinematographer on a lot of his earlier films. Romero showed me how to be an effective storyteller through writing what you think and how you feel. He taught me to be honest. - What are your favorite book genres?
I love horror. Usually the more messed up, the better. I’m a fan of mystery and suspense, as well. - What was the first horror movie you ever saw?
The first horror movie I ever saw was House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price - What is your favorite horror movie?
My favorite horror movies is the original Night of the Living Dead. - What is the worst horror movie you have ever seen?
I’ve seen so many terrible horror movies, but Cannibal Holocaust is probably the one that I had the biggest negative reaction to. I thought filming the death and mutilation of animals was particularly revolting. - Do you have any “rules” when you write? (EX for me: the dog never dies!)
The only rules I have are “Don’t force the story” and “Tell the truth.” - Speaking of animals, do you have any pets?
I have an old lady dog named Isis. She’s a black lab mix. - When you are in a writing funk, how do you find your way out?
I will usually read Pet Semetary, The Black Farm by Elias Witherow, or a Lucy Foley book. - What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a writer?
Tell the truth.
